In a 5-7 page paper address the following questions: The museum or gallery you chose to visit The show or exhibition you saw The particular work/s and artist/s you chose to write about and why. Who is the Artist? Where are they from? When are they from? If possible describe the historical era they are working from/in. Is this a contemporary artist? Or centuries past? Why is this artwork significant/ important? How does this particular artist convey meaning through this artwork? Why do you think this piece was created when it was? What is the piece about? Think of this art piece of art as a messenger- what kinds of things did the artist intend to communicate? How did they do this? Who do you think the intended audience was for this work of art? For example: Why was it important for Ansel Adams to have such a clarity in his work? How did he do this? why? Research the Work you are writing about. Wikipedia is NOT research. It is the beginning of research. You may conduct docent interviews, artist interviews (if living of course),visit a local Library or use ARTSTOR at the Miracosta Campus. Consult at least 3 actual books, and at least 10 websites. Include an image of the work you are writing about on the cover page. ( Not counted toward final page count. ) Research the period in history this piece from and discuss the cultural expressions present in this work. For example: If you chose to write about a an Ansel Adams Photograph, you might discuss what was going on historically at the time he was active. You might discuss his relationship with the Social Realists and the F64 group. etc. Then discuss how this influenced his work and vice/versa. Finally, Discuss what lessons this piece has to teach us now. For example: It could speak to the endurance of nature, or culture, it might speak to the importance of a particular historical moment to a certain group of People- or it might deliberately not be speaking to a certain group of people.
