Aurora University Week 8 Environmental Justice and Immigration Discussion

This forum is an opportunity to discuss policy related to environmental justice and / or immigration to the United States. For this week’s discussion, please select ONE of the three questions listed. Then, for your response to peers, respond to at least one peer who selected a DIFFERENT question.

1)      Examine some of the negative impacts that environmental shifts have had on vulnerable populations. Consider the state of / shifts in U.S. environmental policy in recent years (one resource: https://eelp.law.harvard.edu/2020/02/state-of-the-environment-2020/). Propose changes to environmental policy that will increase safety and well-being ,

2)      Discuss some of the drivers of immigration from Central America and Mexico to the United States.  Suppose that you were a Senior Policy Advisor to the President. What types of policy recommendations might you recommend to help increase the political and economic stability of “sending countries” (the countries from which immigrants emigrate)?

3)      Based on what you read about the operations of immigration policies in the U.S. (e.g. https://www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org/research/how-united-states-immigration-system-works), make and defend a recommendation to improve existing U.S. immigration policy. In your recommendation, consider such factors as the numbers of legal and undocumented immigrants in the U.S., how that has changed over time, and how many immigrants are working.
