The paper should not be merely a ‘book report’ but instead seek to explore a question, e.g. why was there sympathy in the U.S. for South African apartheid or why was there support for Jim Crow or what were the global forces that led to a retreat of slavery and Jim Crow or was the Obama presidency a success for Black America—or otherwise—or what has been the connection between organized crime and popular entertainment (movies, music, etc.) or how and why did ‘colorism’ rise and decline among African-Americans and others. Film and music projects are also acceptable: e.g. a historic analysis of how Black Women have been depicted in film or how have Black Women been depicted in popular music. Of course, these are only suggestions, feel free to develop your own projects. Write this in perspective of a liberal mentality.
